Back in August, when Android Oreo was launched, it had a neat feature called Picture In Picture mode, wherein users can view videos in a small floating window and at the same time interact with their phone screen and use it for other purposes. Isn’t it convenient? Samsung devices had these feature for a long time and Stock Android fans were happy that now they could benefit from this feature. And once, stock Android has this feature as native, developers of various apps like our beloved Whatsapp could adopt and Thank God, they did.
Whatsapp rolled this convenient update back in October as a part of their Beta APK and enthusiast started tinkering with it. IOS users are lucky as they have been using it since the beginning of this year. It works with major video sharing websites like Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr among many others. I’m sure more sources would be added in the coming time. Now that it’s been launched as a part of the stable version 2.18.280, all of us can use it. So, let’s just dive into it and know how to use this handy feature. Yeah, before we proceed, ensure your Whatsapp is updated from the Play Store.
Once you’re ready, just tap on the home button while playing any video within your Whatsapp from any of the aforementioned sources. Bear in mind that the PIP mode won’t work if the video is paused while you tap the home button. However, while the video is in PIP mode, you could pause it and get back to it as and when you want to, without opening the WhatsApp again.
Simple, isn’ it?
So, have you used it? How useful do you find it? I personally find it a better option than the previous Android version’s split screen option. It enhances our multitasking habits. What other feature do you find useful in the recent Whatsapp updates? Drop in the comments.
