Unnao rape case survivor recorder her statement on Wednesday before District Judge during a trial in “courtroom” set up at trauma centre seminar hall for the hearing at AIIMS hospital.
Judge Dharmesh Sharma went to Delhi’s AIIMS hospital today to record the statement of a teen who was allegedly raped by politician Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a former BJP MLA who is also accused of plotting a car crash that left the survivor in a critical state.
The accused MLA was also taken to the AIIMS”courtroom” and to make sure rape survivor did not come face to face with him, the ‘setup courtroom’ was separated with a curtain.
In July, an over speeding truck with blackened number plates thrashed survivor’s car when she was travelling with her relatives and lawyer, killing two of them while leaving her and her lawyer in a critical condition. The survivor is in hospital since then.
The Delhi High Court, last week, ordered the special court at AIIMS in what has been dubbed the Unnao rape case. The court said, this would help the rape survivor to testify in hospital, putting out strict instructions including that she be brought on a stretcher or trolley and placed in a way that she faced the judge during the closed hearing, and that an experienced nurse be by her side. The hospital has also been asked to switch off CCTVs at the hearing.
The Supreme Court asked the High Court to decide on a lower court judge’s request for a special hearing at AIIMS.
CBI was granted more time by the top court to complete its probe into the July 28 car crash. Survivor;s family alleges that ‘accident’ was plotted by Sengar to eliminate her and escape the charges.
The Supreme Court shifted the five cases connected with the Unnao rape case to Delhi on August 1, and assigned a special judge for day-to-day trial. The Court also ordered that the to be completed within 45 days and ordered central security for the family.
